The Enugu State Police Command has addressed allegations regarding the supposed abduction of Abuja-based online news publisher Madu Onuorah, clarifying that his recent detention was a formal arrest. Contrary to abduction claims, Onuorah was apprehended in Abuja with assistance from Ebonyi State Command, utilizing intelligence resources after he failed to respond to formal invitations for questioning.
The arrest stemmed from a written petition submitted to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, alleging that Onuorah had published defamatory content about a US-based Reverend Sister. In response to the petition, Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu has directed a professional investigation into the matter, ensuring a thorough and just process.
CP Uzuegbu has appealed to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory Chapter and Onuorah's associates to remain patient while the investigation proceeds, assuring that all necessary actions will be taken to uphold justice.
The Enugu Police reiterated their commitment to a fair resolution, dispelling misinformation and underscoring their dedication to lawful procedures.
