The Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries have concluded with an inconclusive outcome, marred by disruptions and allegations of irregularities. The Chairman of the seven-member committee overseeing the primaries, Usman Ododo, declared the exercise inconclusive due to reported disruptions across the state, particularly in Okitipupa.
According to reports, the primaries, conducted across 203 wards in the 18 local government areas, faced logistical challenges and instances of violence. In response, elections in all 13 wards of Okitipupa Local Government Area have been scheduled to resume on Sunday.
The inconclusive nature of the primaries has drawn criticism from aspirants within the party, including Olusola Oke, Olugbenga Edema, Wale Akinterinwa, Dayo Faduyile, and Jimi Odimayo, who have called for its cancellation citing alleged irregularities and lack of transparency.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has seized the opportunity to criticize the APC, labeling the primaries as a "charade" and a "mockery of democracy." PDP spokesperson Kennedy Peretei lambasted the APC for its handling of the primaries, highlighting instances of confusion and violence at voting centers.
As the APC grapples with internal strife and accusations of misconduct, the fate of the party's candidacy for the upcoming gubernatorial election hangs in the balance. With the spotlight now on the rescheduled primaries in Okitipupa, the political landscape in Ondo State remains tense, setting the stage for a contentious electoral process ahead.
