Group Urges Tinubu to Reinstate Betta Edu Amid Allegations

The Sustainable Movement of Nigeria (SNM) has called upon President Tinubu to reinstate Dr. Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, amidst allegations of suffering for exposing corruption within the National Social Investment Program Agency.

SNM founder, Mr. Kayode Arimoro, asserted in a press statement on Monday that Edu's suspension was orchestrated by individuals implicated in a corruption scandal involving an unapproved transfer of 44.8 billion Naira in 2023. Arimoro alleged that Edu faced defamation and internal pressure leading to her suspension merely seven days after raising concerns and demanding an investigation into financial misappropriation.

Highlighting Edu's achievements during her tenure, Arimoro emphasized her commitment to grassroots development and combating corruption within the ministry. He argued that the grounds for Edu's suspension were inconsequential, citing legal compliance with project approvals and financial regulations.

Arimoro underscored Edu's instrumental role in President Tinubu's agenda, urging for her reinstatement to ensure the ministry's effective functioning. He warned of the detrimental impact of losing Edu's expertise, particularly in tackling poverty amidst a significant rise in poverty rates in the country.

As the call for reinstatement gains momentum, all eyes are on President Tinubu to address the allegations and restore confidence in the fight against corruption within government agencies.
