A drowning man is always desperate for survival. So, he not only hangs on any clutch readily available, but also goes out of his way to seek survival. This analogy perfectly describes the current state of mind of the (now) politically outcast Gov. Lucky Aiyédatiwa of the Sunshine State. It is no longer a story that the embattled State honcho has become pariah-ed in his own State and party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Not only that he does not enjoy support of the populace, he has also become a persona non grata in his own party, the party faithfuls and supporters now dread like a plague.
His recent surreptitious moves, precisely last week to get the highest organ of the country's police authority to cover up for his many negative baggage, may have backfired. Reports from multiple authentic sources had earlier in the week indicated that Gov. Aiyédatiwa was, in his desperation to retain his seat as the numero uno of Ondo State beyond the current dispensation, took his artifice to the police highest authority at the Louis Edet House, Area 11, Abuja with a whopping N400m to cover for his certificate scandal dangling on his neck like the cog on the neck of a dog.
While this is not unexpected of a man who has become more like a recusant among his political family, and on the other hand, a leper to the electorates as he leaves the state to wail and howl on leadership vacuity in the last 100 days; it is disheartening that such a mistake in power would lavish the State resources on such desperate adventure when governance has been on AWOL in his homestead.
It is more of a worriment that at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR has shown strong leadership by giving every aspirant level playing ground, while performing a carefully, methodically and solution-driven surgical operation on the battered economy of the country, some of his appointees would be seen engaging in acts that would portray the government of the day in bad light.
We therefore call on The Presidency, and particularly Mr. President to issue riot act to any or all of his appointees who may want to sabotage his efforts geared towards guaranteeing an electoral process that generations yet to come would be proud of. We trust President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to do the needful. We are hoping the forthcoming APC gubernatorial primaries in the Sunshine State would be devoid of highest bidder's choice.
