Tinubu Directs Clampdown on Food Item Smuggling to Address National Food Crisis

In a bid to tackle the escalating food crisis gripping Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has issued a resolute directive for the strict enforcement of the Export Prohibition Act regarding food items. The announcement came to light during a pivotal meeting convened with leaders and members of the Dawanau International Grains Market in Kano, where the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, shared the imperative revelation.

Adeniyi underscored that the enforcement of the Export Prohibition Act had been dormant in the past due to Nigeria's perceived food sufficiency. However, given the pressing food crisis confronting the nation, President Tinubu has mandated the comprehensive implementation of the Act to curb the illicit smuggling of essential food commodities out of the country.
