Bandits struck in Gidan Bakuso, Sokoto State, in the early hours of Saturday, kidnapping an unspecified number of Tsangaya students. The school's proprietor, Liman Abubakar, reported that 15 students were missing following the raid, with the counting still ongoing.
Reports revealed that the bandits, after invading the town at 1 am, shot one person, kidnapped a woman, and targeted the students as they fled to their rooms. Abubakar expressed concerns over the recurrent attacks on the village by bandits.
Member of the State House of Assembly for Gada-East Constituency, Kabiru Dauda, verified the attack, stating that authorities and security agencies were alerted and were responding to the situation.
Additionally, bandits attacked Turba village in Isa Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including the village head. Representative for Isa Constituency, Habibu Modachi, attributed the incident to a possible reprisal following security raids on bandits’ hideouts recently.
The Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, expressed unawareness of the events but assured contact with the local Divisional Police Officer for further information.
The timing of the attack coincided with the state's Community Guards Corps passing out as part of the government's initiative to combat banditry in the region.
