Tinubu Takes Swift Action: Orders IGP to Apprehend Ekiti Perpetrators

In the wake of the recent security challenges in Ekiti State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a decisive directive to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure the swift apprehension of all perpetrators involved in the disturbing incidents and guarantee they face the full weight of the law.

This mandate comes following an earlier statement by the IGP, who had ordered strategic deployments to tackle the escalating security issues in the state. The President's involvement underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency for a robust response.

In a significant development, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, engaged in a high-level meeting with the Inspector General of Police at the Force Headquarters on 1st February, 2024. The meeting aimed at addressing the root causes of the security incidents and finding lasting solutions to restore peace in the region.

During the discussions, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of collaboration between the federal and state authorities to tackle the security challenges effectively. He expressed concern over the safety of the citizens and the need for swift and decisive action.

IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, assured the visiting delegation of the unwavering commitment of the Police Force to address the challenges in Ekiti State. He reiterated the goal of bringing all perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safe rescue of kidnapped victims.

To bolster the ongoing efforts, the IGP ordered the immediate deployment of additional resources, including a Police helicopter, Armored Personnel Carriers, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS) operatives, and Police Mobile Force personnel. These reinforcements aim to augment the manpower already on the ground for the special operations in Ekiti.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, fCAI, the Force Public Relations Officer, highlighted the gravity of the situation, urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and provide any relevant information that could assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The President's directive and the collaborative efforts between federal and state authorities reflect a unified front in addressing the security challenges in Ekiti State, with a clear commitment to restoring peace and safeguarding the well-being of the citizens.
