Presidential Committee Tackles Rising Cost of Living with Emergency Food Measures

In response to the nation's escalating cost of living, a crucial gathering convened at the prestigious Presidential Villa in Abuja, chaired by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The assembly, known as the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, brought together a formidable array of government officials and experts to address the pressing issue that has been weighing heavily on the populace.

The committee, chaired by Gbajabiamila, comprised eminent figures including Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Yemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, and Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the Minister of State for Agriculture.

Amidst the gravity of the situation, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, stepped forward to brief the press on the committee's deliberations. Recognizing the urgency of the matter, Idris emphasized that the committee engaged in intensive discussions to devise effective measures aimed at ensuring food availability for all Nigerians.

Proposed actions put forward by the committee included a strategic unlocking of food reserves, fostering collaborative efforts with major millers and commodity traders to stabilize supply chains, and implementing targeted interventions to alleviate the inflationary pressures that have driven up food prices across the nation.

As the nation grapples with the profound economic challenges exacerbated by the global pandemic and other domestic factors, the government pledged resolute intervention measures to mitigate the burden on Nigerian households.
