In a startling revelation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken decisive action against Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, the brother of former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, over an alleged N8.06 billion contract fraud within the Federal Ministry of Aviation. Recent investigations conducted by The Nation have shed light on the intricate web of corruption surrounding Engirios Nigeria Limited, a company owned by Abubakar Sirika.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, a Level-16 officer and deputy director in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, found himself under intense scrutiny after the EFCC traced approximately N3 billion to his company's account. This revelation has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability within government circles.
The contracts in question, totaling N8.06 billion, were awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited during the tenure of Hadi Sirika as Minister of Aviation. However, investigators have uncovered a troubling pattern of alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of funds. Despite the substantial sums allocated to these projects, there is scant evidence to suggest that any significant work has been completed.
Among the projects flagged by investigators are the construction of the Terminal Building in Katsina Airport, fire truck maintenance and refurbishment center in Katsina Airport, procurement and installation of equipment for Aviation House in Abuja, and procurement of aircraft and simulator for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria. Despite the hefty price tags attached to these endeavors, there is little to show in terms of tangible progress or deliverables.
Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, identified as the MD/CEO of Engirios Nigeria Limited, reportedly wielded significant influence within the company, serving as its sole signatory to accounts held with two prominent banks. It is alleged that upon receipt of the substantial payments, he orchestrated a series of transfers to various entities, further complicating the investigation.
The EFCC's swift and decisive action underscores its unwavering commitment to combating corruption and holding accountable those who seek to exploit public funds for personal gain. As the investigation unfolds, there is a palpable sense of anticipation among the public, eager for justice to be served and for those responsible to be held to account for their actions.
