In a recent development, the Presidency has shed light on the ongoing investigation into the financial irregularity surrounding the transfer of N585.189 million by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.
President Bola Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that appropriate action would be taken once the investigation concludes. He emphasized, "The matter is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken thereafter."
The controversy revolves around the diversion of N585.189 million, intended for the vulnerable populations in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, into a private account. This incident sparked public outrage and demands for Edu's dismissal and legal prosecution.
A leaked document, reportedly signed by Minister Edu and addressed to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, revealed the directive to disburse the funds into a private account belonging to Bridget Mojisola Oniyelu.
Despite the public outcry, Edu, through her Special Assistant Publicity, Rasheed Zubair, released a statement asserting that the action was duly approved and followed due process.
As the investigation unfolds, the nation awaits the outcome and anticipates decisive measures from the authorities to address the alleged financial irregularities involving Minister Betta Edu.
