In a bold move, Honourable Anamero Dekeri, representing Etsako Federal Constituency, officially threw his hat into the ring for the Edo State governorship race, vying for the APC ticket in the upcoming February 17 primaries. The seasoned politician, while expressing his determination at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, sharply criticized the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Dekeri, a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), didn't mince words as he accused Obaseki's administration of failing to deliver the promised dividends of democracy. In his assessment, he pointed out the dire state of basic infrastructures, collapsing industries, and a general decline in all sectors, asserting that the people of Edo State were suffering and dying under the current leadership.
Shifting the focus to the ongoing discourse about zoning, Dekeri vehemently opposed the idea of choosing the next governor based on senatorial districts, dismissing it as a breeding ground for incompetence. He emphasized the importance of evaluating leadership based on competence and skills rather than following a turn-by-turn politics approach.
Highlighting the demographic aspect, Dekeri underscored the disparity in population among the senatorial districts, particularly drawing attention to Edo North, which he represents. He argued that despite having the second-largest population in the state, Edo North has only produced one governor, whereas Edo Central, with a smaller voting population, has seen two consecutive governors.
Addressing the issue of power dynamics within the APC in Edo State, Dekeri clarified that the party is not currently in power and emphasized the need to focus on regaining political control before delving into discussions about zoning. He articulated a vision for Edo State centered on progress, prosperity, and pride, with a commitment to providing quality education, equipping the youth with future-ready skills, and fostering a flourishing industrial sector to boost employment and economic growth.
As the race heats up, Dekeri positions himself as a candidate with a vision for good governance and a profound concern for the welfare of the people, promising to usher in a new era of positive transformation for Edo State.
