Assures Nigerians of Commitment to Alleviate Economic Hardships
In response to recent concerns regarding a statement made by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, through his media unit the Nigerian Senate has issued a clarification to assure the public that the remark was not meant to downplay the difficulties faced by ordinary Nigerians in the current economic climate.
The statement in question, "Let The People Breathe," was actually made by Senator Akintunde Abiodun during a plenary session on July 26th, 2023. Senator Abiodun used these words while speaking about the motion to halt the planned increase in electricity tariffs.
It is essential to emphasize that all matters discussed during Senate sessions are treated with the utmost importance and seriousness by the President of the Senate and his esteemed colleagues. The intention behind the motion and the subsequent comments was never to dismiss the hardships, sufferings, and economic challenges experienced by Nigerians during this critical period.
The proposal was put forward to firmly reject any plans to raise electricity tariffs, taking into account the ongoing economic challenges faced by Nigerians. The current National Assembly, under the leadership of Senator Akpabio, focuses primarily on implementing effective and well-structured policies that genuinely benefit the people.
