The fierce battle between Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara has come to an end, with Akpabio defeating Yari 63:46 to emerge as the leader of the 10th. Senate.
The battle for the leadership of the Senate has been on for sometimes now until today the two camps have been involved in a fierce challenge as to who controls the upper house of the Nigeria's bicameral Parliament.
It may be recalled that the President as well as the leadership of the Governing APC have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of Senator Akpabio owing to the need for a balanced government where both Christian and Muslims were given a level playing field on the Lea of the country.
Tinubu/Shettima won the Presidential election in February on a joint Muslim/Muslim ticket, a development that draws countless reactions from various quarters.
It was in this light that the party decided to zone its Senate Presidency to the Christian dominated South and particularly to Akpabio, a choice that did not go down well with Yari and Co.
After a long battle, politicking and what have you, it has finally being settled with Akpabio emerging as Senate President.
