But let us examine the letter in light of recent events, about election/democracy in America and Europe, which arguably are the two most advanced parts of the world.
What happened in Belarus last year? Right in the heart of Europe, President Alexander Lukashenko was accused of rigging election and using violence on citizens, among others. Today, he is still president.
What is happening in Ukraine today?
Therefore, the thinking by Chimamanda and co, that the world care about them, is delusional. At best, Chimamanda is playing to the gallery with her letter. If America doesn't care about their fellow Europeans, why would anyone think that America cares about Africa?
President Biden she wrote, what happened at the US Capitol Hill last January? Has America been able to resolve that global show of shame?
Can Biden explain what happened with the alleged Russia intervention in America's election that produced President Trump?
Can Biden or America explain the issue about Al Gore, rigged and Florida, in connection to the emergence of President Bush?
Chimamanda lives in America, but none of these bothers her. She has not written the US Congress on any of the issues above. But she is writing them about the 2023 Nigerian election. Meanwhile, the same America has not resolved its many years' outstanding democracy challenges. And we are talking of America that has been an unbroken democracy for over 250 years. The joke is on us.
The truth is that America knows that the Nigerian election was not perfect but was still won by Tinubu.
No system is perfect. And it doesn't have to be. That's why an over 250 years old democracy is still struggling with its election processes and has sustained stain in its past two Presidential elections.
