Despite the political alignments and realignments that characterise every political process there is one factor that cannot be wished away in this rounds of election, that's the SLS factor.
Sunusi Lamido Sunusi the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniya Tarika sect of Africa, one of the largest and most respected religious group in Africa and Nigeria in particular.
The SLS spiritual leadership of the sect, his charisma, charm and generosity has transformed him into a spiritual head highly revered, loved and respected by both his followers and even outside his sect.

So this year's election in Kano has more of sympathy votes, more of a Referendum on Sunusi Lamido Sunusi. Most of the voters voted with the aim of punishing Governor Ganduje for the sacrilegious act of dethroning the Religious leader.
The Sunusi Lamido Sunusi factor has played a major role in tilting the pendulum and victory towards the NNPP in many ways despite Kwankwaso's popularity and strong political backing amongst the Youth which makes a large chunk of the electors in the State.
A good number of the Kanawas hold the grudge against Governor Ganduje for dethroning the Emir in a move that's widely seen and described as politically motivated.
Sunusi Lamido Sunusi enjoyed the respect of many Nigerians and Kano people in particular. He is loved and cherished by the Kanawa considering his antecedent of standing for the cause of the masses, his vocal criticism against bad governance, his courage and generosity.
Sunusi Lamido Sunusi is regarded as the true son of the soil in Kano, a Patron, Mentor and a respected scholar.
Kano politics is deeply rooted in the traditional and religious institutions and the body language of those institutions to a large extent determine were and how the electors voted.
Another set and or group of highly influential people that help swing the pendulum of victory towards the NNPP due to the SLS factor are the traditional institutions most of which felt disappointed by Ganduje's act and felt they have lost a chance to benefit from SLS's reforms of the traditional institutions the breath of a long anticipated new life in the Emirates, including economic liberation and introduction of western education to many withing the system which were hitherto treated as second class citizens and or enslaved by the previous system.
Most of those within the lower rank of the traditional institution who saw SLS as the liberator and sot of a messiah voted for the NNPP as solidarity votes to punish Ganduje for what they see as putting rods in the wheel of their progress.
Without doubt , Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya movement have a lot to thank His Highness Sunusi Lamido Sunusi for their well deserved victory.
