APC governors under the aegis of the progressive governors forum has made a passionate appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the concurrent use of both the old and new Naira notes to ease the suffering of the people due to shortage of cash.
Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna state made this remark to newsmen in Abuja flanked by his Kano State counterpart Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje after the meeting.
El-rufai further stated that they also brought to the notice of the president that while the CBN has mopped up over N2 trillion of the old notes in circulation, only N300 billion worth of new notes were printed.
He said if the CBN is serious about the cash swap it could have printed at least 50% of the total notes mopped up.
Although the president is yet to deny or approve the request sources has it that the chairman of the progressive governors forum Alh. Bagudu of Kebbi state is currently in a closed door meeting with the President with the intend to persuade him to accept the proposal that will ease the current hardship faced by Nigerians.
Reports from different media has it that economic activities have been paralysed across the country due to scarcity of cash leaving Nigerians groaning under excruciating pain few weeks to a general election.
