Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has announced his decision to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered the forfeiture of certain properties linked to him.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami said he respectfully disagrees with aspects of the judgment and has directed his legal team to immediately challenge the decision before the Court of Appeal.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, the Constitution, and the independence of the judiciary, stressing that the judgment does not represent the final determination of the case.
"The appellate process exists to ensure that every legal issue is thoroughly examined, and I remain confident that justice will ultimately prevail," the statement said.
Malami urged the public and the media to avoid drawing premature conclusions while the legal process continues, emphasizing that every citizen has the constitutional right to seek redress through the courts.
He also expressed appreciation to the people of Kebbi State and Nigerians who have continued to support and pray for him, assuring them that the development would not distract him from his commitment to public service and his vision for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Kebbi State.
The former Attorney-General further appealed to his supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while allowing the judicial process to take its full course.
