ADC Dismisses Nafiu Bala's INEC Portal Claim, Demands Forgery Probe

by Abu Ismail

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed as false claims that a group led by Nafiu Bala Gombe uploaded the names of a presidential candidate and other nominees to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, describing the report as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create confusion.

In a statement issued on Monday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said it had formally drawn INEC's attention to what it described as the apparent forgery and unauthorised use of documents purportedly issued by the electoral commission. The party urged INEC to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to protect the integrity of its processes.

According to the party, INEC does not issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to any leadership it does not recognise, stressing that the commission cannot issue two separate nomination codes to the same political party.

The ADC questioned the authenticity of the alleged upload, asking those behind the claim to provide evidence that a group not recognised by law or by INEC was granted access to the nomination portal.

The opposition party maintained that it is not factionalised and insisted that the leadership recognised by INEC had lawfully concluded its nomination process in line with the Electoral Act and the commission's guidelines.

The party further reiterated that the details of its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, had already been successfully uploaded to the INEC portal through the recognised party leadership.

The ADC accused those behind the claim of attempting to distract the party ahead of the 2027 general election but vowed to remain focused on presenting what it described as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

The party urged its members, supporters, the media and the general public to disregard what it called false claims and rely only on official communications issued through its authorised channels.
