Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 22 kidnapped victims during separate operations conducted in Sokoto State.
The successful rescue missions followed credible intelligence reports and distress calls regarding terrorist activities in parts of the state, reaffirming the military's commitment to protecting lives and property across the North-West region.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the military said the operations demonstrated its determination to create a secure environment where citizens can go about their lawful activities without fear.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road near Kura Mota Village, where suspected terrorists attacked two commercial vehicles. The assailants reportedly killed one civilian before abducting several passengers.
Upon receiving information about the attack, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and launched a coordinated pursuit operation backed by aerial surveillance and support. The sustained pressure mounted on the fleeing terrorists forced them to abandon their captives and escape into the bush, leading to the rescue of 17 kidnapped passengers.
In a separate operation, troops responded to another terrorist attack at Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area. Armed criminals had reportedly attempted to kidnap farmers working on their farmlands.
Security personnel immediately deployed to the area and pursued the attackers along their escape route. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of five abducted farmers, who were later reunited with their families.
Following the rescue missions, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in neighbouring communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure residents and strengthen security presence in the affected areas.
The military reiterated its resolve to sustain ongoing operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and restoring lasting peace across communities in the North-West region.
