Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified their offensive against terrorists and bandits, killing two terrorists, rescuing a kidnapped victim, arresting eight suspected collaborators and recovering 110 rustled cattle during a series of coordinated operations across Kaduna and Zamfara states.
The operations, carried out between June 27 and 28, 2026, underscore the military's renewed efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security across the North-West.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the successes were achieved through intelligence-led operations, aggressive patrols and close collaboration with local vigilante groups.
In one operation in Giwa and Kaduna North Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, troops intercepted terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles. Following a fierce gun battle, the terrorists abandoned two motorcycles and fled into nearby bushes. One kidnapped victim was rescued alive, while another was found dead after reportedly being murdered by the fleeing terrorists.
Troops also responded swiftly to a terrorist attack on Dariya Village in Giwa Local Government Area, where gunmen had killed one resident and injured three others before security forces arrived. The soldiers immediately pursued the attackers, intercepted them while attempting to escape on motorcycles and killed two terrorists during an exchange of gunfire.
Items recovered from the operation included a motorcycle, ammunition, charms and other personal belongings believed to belong to the terrorists.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators at Magami in Gusau Local Government Area. The suspects are believed to have been providing medical support to terrorist groups operating in the area.
Similarly, troops on a fighting patrol around Polewire Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State arrested six additional suspected collaborators linked to criminal activities.
The military also recovered 110 stolen cattle during the operations, dealing another blow to criminal elements involved in cattle rustling and banditry.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the ongoing offensive against terrorists and bandits across the North-West, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
