Former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure in office.
Sources within the anti-graft agency disclosed that Okowa's appearance was connected to a probe into the management of public funds during his eight years as governor of Delta State. The visit comes amid renewed scrutiny of financial activities carried out under his administration.
The former governor has remained under the watch of investigators since November 2024 when the EFCC arrested and questioned him over allegations involving the diversion of about N1.3 trillion reportedly linked to the state's 13 percent derivation funds and other government resources during his administration.
Although details of Monday's meeting with investigators were not immediately made public, sources indicated that the commission is continuing its efforts to conclude investigations into the allegations.
Okowa, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023 and was the Peoples Democratic Party's vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has yet to publicly comment on his latest visit to the EFCC office.
The EFCC has also not issued an official statement on the development as of the time of filing this report. However, the former governor's appearance at the commission's Lagos office signals that the investigation remains active.
