As The Road To 2027 Shortens, The Choice Is No Longer Between Different Ideologies Or Party Platforms. It Is A Binary Choice Between Collective Survival And Individual Incarceration. The Message From The Powers That Be Is Loud, Clear, And Terrifyingly Consistent. If You Are Not Under The Umbrella Of The Center, You Are Under The Microscope Of The State.
Look No Further Than The Sudden Grace Extended To Those Who Bowed. For Months, The Specter Of The EFCC Loomed Over Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Regarding The Alleged Diversion Of 1.3 Trillion Naira In Derivation Funds. Yet, The Political Winds Shifted The Moment The Gears Of Alignment Began To Turn Toward The Ruling Party.
In The Nigerian Political Theater, Forgiveness Is A Commodity Purchased With Defection. Similarly, The Dramatic Saga Of Yahaya Bello, Once A Fugitive Of The Law In A High Stakes Standoff With Security Agencies, Cooled Significantly Only After The Necessary Political Genuflections Were Made. In Kebbi State, The Factional Chairman Sufyanu Bala Languishes In A Remand Cell Over Contempt Of Court, Which Is The Direct Result Of Internal Leadership Tussles And A Refusal To Find Common Ground. While The State Targets Their Leaders With Charges Of Cybercrime And Terrorism Financing, The Party Rank And File Are Busy Litigating Against One Another. This Is Not Politics. It Is Professional Negligence. When You Are Being Hunted By A Lion, You Do Not Stop To Argue With Your Brother About Who Gets To Lead The Escape. Internal Sabotage Is The Fuel That Powers The State Engine Of Repression.
Nigeria Is Not An Island, And History Is A Cruel Teacher. We Are Witnessing The Continentalization Of Opposition Erasure. Look At Zimbabwe, Where The Opposition Is Systematically Dismantled Through Lawfare, Which Is The Use Of Legal Systems To Disqualify, Detain, And Demoralize. Look At Equatorial Guinea Or The History Of Ethiopia, Where The State Ensures That By The Time An Election Arrives, There Is No One Left To Run Against. Dictatorial Blueprints Always Begin With The Legal Guillotine. They Do Not Start By Banning Parties. They Start By Bankrupting Them Through Bail Bonds And Burying Their Leaders Under 26 Count Charges Of False Information And Forgery, As Seen In The Recent Remand Of Abdurahman Bobboi In Adamawa. They Consume The Opposition One Leader At A Time, Ensuring That By 2027, The Only Unity Left Is The Shared Silence Of A Prison Yard.
The Arraignment Of Tanimu Turaki This Week Should Be The Final Klaxon. A Man Of His Legal And Political Standing Was Docked Not For A Billion Naira Heist, But For A Petition He Wrote In 2022. The Message Is That Everything Is A Crime If You Are The Target. From The Bauchi State Commissioner Yakubu Adamu To The Mid Level Operatives In The States, The Net Is Being Cast Wide. The State Is No Longer Just Going After The Head. It Is Amputating The Limbs Of The Opposition. The 100 Million Naira Bail Bonds Being Slapped On Leaders Are Not Just Legal Requirements. They Are Financial Landmines Designed To Bleed The Opposition Dry Before The First Ballot Is Even Cast.
To The Leaders Of The PDP, The ADC, And The LP, Your Current Strategy Of Isolated Survival Is A Delusion. You Believe That Your Individual Legal Teams Or Your Private Deals With The Presidency Will Save You. They Will Not. They Are Merely Stay Of Execution Orders. The Nigerian Masses Are Looking For A Vanguard, But All They See Are Leaders Who Are More Afraid Of Each Other Than They Are Of The Looming Autocracy. If You Do Not Unite, Not Just In Spirit, But In A Functional, Iron Clad Political Bloc, You Are Effectively Choosing Your Cell Block.
The 2027 Election Will Not Be Fought On The Pages Of Manifestos. It Will Be Fought In The Trenches Of Self Preservation. You Must Unite To Fight Internal Sabotage, Pool Resources To Protect Your Members From Legal Harassment, And Present A Single, Unbreakable Front To The Masses. Failure To Do So Will Lead To A Very Different Kind Of Unity. You Will Finally Meet, Not At A Convention Or A Summit, But In The Corridors Of Kuje Or The Detention Centers Of The DSS. There, You Will Have All The Time In The World To Discuss The Unity You Were Too Proud To Forge When You Had The Chance. Opposition Leaders Must Take Note. The Gates Of 2027 Are Opening. One Path Leads To The Eagle Square And The Other Leads To The Prison Yard. Choose Wisely, For The State Has Already Chosen For You.
