Malami’s Courage Stands Tall: ADC Youth Leader Pays Solidarity Visit After Release

Abuja – In a stirring show of solidarity, the National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Comrade Balarabe Rufa’i, alongside the National Women Leader and other youth wing members, paid a heartfelt courtesy visit to Dr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, at his Abuja residence days after his triumphant release from detention.

The former Attorney-General of the Federation had endured a gruelling three-month ordeal in the hands of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His legal battles began in late December 2025 with a 16-count money laundering charge that saw him, his wife and son remanded in Kuje Prison. Though granted bail in early January 2026, he was immediately rearrested by the DSS on fresh allegations of terrorism financing and illegal arms possession. Subsequent court proceedings featured bail grants followed by revocations under a new judge, yet Malami remained resolute.

On 16 March 2026, a Federal High Court finally granted him bail in the DSS case, allowing the courageous statesman to return home after weeks of uncertainty and repeated legal hurdles.

Supporters and civil rights activists across the country have described the entire saga as nothing short of a political witch-hunt. They point directly to Malami’s bold decision to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and align with the opposition ADC, coupled with his declared ambition to contest the 2027 Kebbi State governorship election, as the real trigger for the prolonged persecution.

“Malami has displayed uncommon courage and dignity in the face of orchestrated intimidation,” the ADC youth delegation declared during the visit. “His release is a victory not just for him, but for every Nigerian who believes justice should never be weaponised against political opponents.”

The delegation hailed the ex-AGF’s steadfastness and pledged the full backing of the ADC youth wing in his fight for good governance and his gubernatorial aspirations. The visit, coming hot on the heels of similar solidarity gestures from other leaders, signals growing unity within the opposition against perceived selective justice.

Dr. Malami, ever the picture of resilience, thanked his visitors and reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s progress. His story continues to inspire many as a shining example of courage under fire.
