South-South Group Urges Jonathan to Consider 2027 Presidential Race

by Mo Hanif

A South-South socio-political group has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to consider contesting the 2027 presidential election, citing his experience and democratic credentials as assets Nigeria could draw upon at a critical period.

The call was made in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by the South-South Vanguard Renaissance Group in a communiqué issued on Tuesday.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its spokesperson, Henry Tamuno, said members believe Jonathan remains well-placed to contribute to national leadership should he decide to return to active politics.

Tamuno said the former president’s time in office and leadership style continue to resonate with many Nigerians amid ongoing economic, security and governance challenges. He described Jonathan as a seasoned democrat whose record, including his role in strengthening democratic norms, deserves renewed national consideration.

The group noted that its position reflects growing concerns among citizens who believe Nigeria needs experienced leadership to navigate current difficulties.

Jonathan has yet to respond publicly to the call, and there has been no official indication from his camp on whether he intends to seek elective office in 2027.
