The Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Rivers State, Dr. Minaibi Dagogo-Jack, has criticised claims of overwhelming political influence attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, arguing that available electoral figures do not support such assertions.
Speaking during a press briefing aired by Symfoni TV, Dagogo-Jack said the votes recorded for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State during the 2023 presidential election were about 230,000, a figure he described as insignificant when compared with the total number of registered voters in the state.
According to him, presenting such numbers as proof of political dominance is misleading and does not justify the intense political tension currently playing out in Rivers State. He noted that both the presidential and governorship elections produced winners with votes amounting to less than 10 per cent of the state’s registered voters.
Dagogo-Jack expressed concern over the ongoing political crisis in the state, describing it as unhealthy and unprecedented. He warned that continuous political confrontation and public exchanges among key actors could further destabilise the state and undermine governance.
The PFN chairman called on political leaders to embrace restraint, dialogue and peace, stressing that Rivers State needs stability and responsible leadership rather than prolonged political agitation and power struggles.
His remarks come amid deepening divisions within the Rivers State political landscape, which have continued to attract national attention and concern from religious and civic groups.
