Taraba, Nigeria — The Nigerian Army has arrested three suspected Christian extremists following the burning of a residential house in Karim Town, Wurkun area of Taraba State.
The suspects, identified as Bitrus Ishaya, Mamman Ibrahim, and Emmanuel Adi, were apprehended by troops deployed to the area after the incident, which security sources said had the potential to escalate into wider communal unrest.
Residents of the community reported rising tension and repeated security incidents in recent weeks, allegedly linked to acts of religious and communal extremism. Troops were said to have responded swiftly to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Military authorities disclosed that two of the suspects claimed to be members of the Taraba Marshal security outfit but failed to produce valid identification, while the third suspect reportedly gave contradictory statements during preliminary questioning.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured residents that those responsible for the attack would be dealt with according to the law. The military urged the public to remain calm and allow security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation as efforts continue to stabilise the area.
