The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday delivered its verdict on a motion filed by Nnamdi Kanu concerning his detention at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, further shaping the legal path of his post-conviction proceedings.
Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had approached the court regarding his continued stay in Sokoto, drawing attention to the distance from Abuja and the implications for access to legal representation and engagement with ongoing judicial processes.
In addressing the motion, the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, focused on procedural compliance, stressing that applications involving government agencies must follow due process and allow all concerned parties to be properly brought before the court. The court equally examined documents linked to Kanu’s appeal, identifying procedural issues that require correction in line with established legal standards.
The matter was adjourned to January 27, 2026, for further proceedings.
The ruling has once again placed Kanu’s detention and appeal process in public focus, as attention shifts to the next phase of the legal contest.
