The Zamfara State Police Command on Friday night foiled a bandit attack on Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area, rescuing 25 abducted victims — ten women and fifteen children — in a swift and coordinated operation.
The attack occurred at about 9:45pm when a large group of gunmen invaded the village, shooting sporadically and attempting to escape with the captives. A distress call immediately mobilised a joint response team comprising operatives from Damba Division, the Department of Operations in Gusau, and Community Protection Guards.
Police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abu, said the security teams engaged the bandits in a fierce confrontation, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the forest. All 25 rescued persons were safely evacuated to Sabongari Damba for profiling, medical checks, and reunification with their families.
The police command commended the timely collaboration of local security volunteers and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive patrols and rapid-response operations across vulnerable communities.
Friday’s rescue underscores the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, where bandit attacks and mass abductions have continued to threaten rural settlements. Authorities say they remain determined to restore peace and stability in the region.
