The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has boosted its political presence with the formal reception of Harvard-trained education advocate, Mr. Francis Igwejiuba, and his supporters at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri.
The development comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. Leaders of the party described the defection as a significant step in ADC’s ongoing efforts to expand its grassroots structure across the state.
Welcoming the new entrants, the Imo State Chairman of ADC, Prof. James Okoroma, described Igwejiuba’s decision as “timely and strategic,” noting that the party was attracting individuals with proven records of service and credibility. He praised Igwejiuba’s contributions to education and community development, stressing that such experience aligns with ADC’s vision of people-oriented governance.
Prof. Okoroma assured Igwejiuba and his supporters of equal opportunities within the party, adding that ADC remains committed to internal democracy, issue-based politics, and youth participation.
Speaking at the event, Igwejiuba said his decision to join the ADC was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of Imo State and Nigeria at large. He noted that the party’s focus on education, social welfare, and accountable leadership resonated with his personal values and long-standing advocacy work.
Party stakeholders and supporters present at the event expressed optimism that the latest defection would further energise ADC’s mobilisation efforts, particularly among professionals, youths, and civil society actors, as preparations intensify for future electoral contests in the state.
