The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stepped into the leadership crisis rocking its Adamawa State chapter, affirming the faction loyal to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, as the authentic leadership of the party in the state.
In a statement released by the National Working Committee (NWC) after an emergency meeting in Abuja, the party upheld the emergence of Hon. Sadiq Dasin as the interim chairman of the ADC in Adamawa State, warning that any attempts to destabilize the party at the state level would be met with firm disciplinary action.
The NWC clarified that the leadership transition which produced Dasin was conducted under the supervision of the National Vice Chairman, North-East, and was in full compliance with the party’s constitution and guidelines. “The National Secretariat recognizes only the executive committee led by Hon. Sadiq Dasin as the legitimate structure of the ADC in Adamawa State,” the statement read.
The crisis, which had created two parallel factions—one led by Sadiq Dasin and the other by Saidu Komsiri—has generated tension among party members, prompting intervention from the national leadership. The Komsiri group, which has been accused of insubordination and anti-party conduct, reportedly attempted to hold an unauthorized congress to challenge the authority of the national leadership.
The ADC leadership expressed concern that the Adamawa crisis, if not managed properly, could weaken the party’s growing influence in the North-East, especially as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections. The party reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and factionalism, warning members against “sponsoring confusion” or “acting on behalf of the party without due authorization.”
“The African Democratic Congress is built on discipline, transparency, and respect for due process. We will not allow any group of individuals to hijack or undermine our structures in Adamawa or anywhere else,” the NWC warned.
Meanwhile, the faction led by Babachir Lawal and Sadiq Dasin has received widespread support from local stakeholders and party elders, who praised the national headquarters for taking a decisive stance. They described the NWC’s decision as a “victory for truth, order, and unity within the ADC family.”
Political observers believe that Babachir Lawal’s continued influence in the North-East gives the Dasin-led faction significant political leverage, positioning it as a stabilizing force within the ADC in Adamawa State.
The party leadership, however, appealed to all members to put the interest of the ADC above personal ambitions and work together to strengthen its base ahead of future political contests.
