The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, as the Kaduna State Coalition Chairman, in what appears to be a strategic political move to strengthen the party’s structure and reposition the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made during a press conference by the ADC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Ja’afaru Sani, who described Senator Usman’s appointment as part of the party’s broader effort to unite credible political leaders and groups across Kaduna State under one formidable coalition.
Sani further revealed that Bashir Sa’idu, a former Kaduna State Commissioner for Finance, has also been appointed as Co-Chairman of the coalition, emphasizing that the duo will lead the ADC’s statewide mobilisation campaign to build an inclusive political platform for all citizens seeking change.
He said the coalition aims to “end the current hopeless APC regime of tyranny in the state and across the country,” accusing the ruling party of undermining democracy and inflicting hardship on Nigerians.
Sani also alleged that some “mercenary politicians” had been sponsored to institute court cases against notable leaders of the coalition, including himself and former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, in a bid to frustrate the opposition unity process.
Senator Nenadi Usman, a seasoned politician and former federal lawmaker, was Minister of Finance under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and is widely regarded as an experienced technocrat with deep grassroots connections in Kaduna South Senatorial District.
Her appointment, according to party insiders, is expected to bolster the ADC’s presence in the state and attract a broader spectrum of political actors who feel sidelined by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Observers believe the ADC’s latest move signals the beginning of an aggressive push to form a viable political alternative in Kaduna State, which has been dominated by the APC since 2015.
With Senator Usman at the helm of its coalition, the ADC appears set to rally disenchanted politicians and civil society actors around its vision of restoring participatory governance and political accountability.
