Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has declared that no amount of “intimidation and blackmail” will deter him from pursuing his political ideals, following his recent detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of N189 billion fraud.
Tambuwal, who was granted bail after being questioned by the anti-graft agency, returned to Sokoto to a rousing welcome from supporters and political allies. In a charged reception marked by solidarity chants, the former governor accused the Sokoto State Government of instigating the probe as part of a calculated political witch-hunt aimed at tarnishing his image ahead of future political engagements.
Addressing the crowd, Tambuwal reiterated his commitment to championing “equitable governance” and defending the rights of the people, insisting that the allegations against him were fabricated. “I will not bow to intimidation, I will not be silenced, and I will not betray the trust of my people,” he declared.
The EFCC is yet to release an official statement detailing the findings of its investigation, but sources indicate that the probe centers on alleged financial mismanagement during Tambuwal’s eight-year tenure as governor. Political observers have described the case as a potential flashpoint in Sokoto’s political landscape, given Tambuwal’s influence and the deepening rivalry between his camp and the current state administration.
