In a bold political move that has rattled the opposition camp in Kebbi State, Sadeeq Mohammed Rufai Yabay, a former House of Assembly aspirant for Danko-Wasagu West under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made a passionate appeal for Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN, to contest the 2027 governorship election and “rescue Kebbi State from total collapse.”
Sadeeq made this public declaration during a courtesy visit to Dr. Sule-Iko S. Sami, a close political associate and frontline lieutenant of Malami, in Birnin Kebbi. The meeting, which was initially meant as a personal interaction, turned into a passionate political moment as Sadeeq officially dumped the PDP and threw his weight behind what he described as the “Malami Rescue Project.”
> “Kebbi is sinking. The people are suffering in silence. We need a tested and trusted leader who understands governance, justice, and development. Malami remains the most capable hand to save Kebbi from further decay,” Sadeeq told reporters after the visit.
He added that his decision to abandon the PDP was not for personal gain, but in solidarity with the growing demand from Kebbi youths and political stakeholders for credible leadership in 2027.
> “This is beyond party lines. We have tried empty promises and clueless leadership. I am calling on Malami, through his able lieutenant Dr. Sule-Iko S. Sami, to rise to the call of duty. The time to rescue Kebbi is now,” he added.
The former PDP aspirant praised Dr. Sami for his loyalty, humility, and coordination of progressive minds across the state, describing him as a “quiet mobilizer and strategic thinker in the Malami political family.”
This declaration by Sadeeq adds to a rising trend of defections and realignments across Kebbi’s political landscape. Only recently, other aspirants and youth leaders from various local governments also expressed interest in joining the Malami 2027 project—urging the former Minister of Justice to heed the calls of the people.
While Mallam Malami has remained silent on whether he will contest in 2027, sources close to him say consultations are ongoing and the support base keeps expanding by the day.
Political analysts view this development as an early signal that Malami may soon throw his hat into the ring—especially as public sentiment grows against the current political leadership in the state.
Kebbi appears to be at a turning point, and voices like Sadeeq Yabay’s are growing louder in demanding change. Whether Malami will heed the call remains to be seen—but the movement has clearly begun.
