NYO Visits NDLEA, Seeks Stronger Partnership to Tackle Drug Abuse and Insecurity

The Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO) paid a courtesy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to strengthen collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking among Nigerian youths.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, had the  Dr Ngozi Madumere - DCGN, Director, Drug Demand Reduction of the NDLEA who stand in for the Agency’s Chairman, His Excellency Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd).

Dr. Ngozi Madumere, DCGN, who represented the Chairman, welcomed the NYO delegation and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to partnering with the Nigeria Youth Organisation to curb drug-related social vices.

In his address, Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, the National Executive President of NYO, described the visit as a significant step marking the beginning of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Week, which kicks off on August 6.

He highlighted the Organisation’s long-standing dedication to promoting peace, unity and youth development since its founding in December 1980. According to him, the Nigeria Youth Organisation  operating under the supervision of the Presidency through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development remains a catalyst for national unity and inter-group dialogue.

Comrade Okorie presented the 2025 Emblem of the Nigeria Youth Organisation to the NDLEA, inscribed with the message “Adequate Security: A Collective Responsibility for All Nigerian Youths,” alongside a pledge to support the Renewed Hope Nigeria agenda. He commended the NDLEA for its relentless efforts in combating drug trafficking and supporting youth-focused initiatives.

In response, Dr. Madumere acknowledged the link between rising drug abuse and the country’s worsening insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping. She noted that despite resource constraints, the Agency remains committed to providing technical support to the NYO’s upcoming International Youth Week and related programmes.

She further noted that timely details about the upcoming Youth Week including venue and schedules would enable the Agency’s active participation.

The visit ended with a vote of thanks from the NYO National Secretary, Comrade Oluwabukunmi Awolola who expressed deep appreciation to the NDLEA for its dedication to nation-building and commitment to collaborating with the youth to tackle drug abuse.
