Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on Saturday led a high-powered delegation on a condolence visit to the family of the late Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness, Major General Muhammad Sani Sami (rtd), at the Emir’s palace in Zuru, Kebbi State.
Malami, accompanied by political associates, traditional title holders, community leaders, and prominent politicians, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the revered monarch, describing him as a man of honor, courage, and dignity whose life embodied both military service and cultural guardianship. “The late Emir of Zuru was a towering personality whose legacy will live on in the annals of our history. He served Nigeria with uncommon dedication as a soldier and later as a traditional ruler who never relented in promoting peace, unity, and development. His passing is a national loss,” Malami said.
The former Justice Minister also noted the personal relationship he shared with members of the Emir’s family, particularly Dr. Sule-Iko Sami, the son of the late Emir and one of Malami’s close political associates, acknowledging his father’s role in nurturing leaders who continue to contribute to public service and governance in Nigeria.
Malami led special prayers for the repose of the late Emir’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and bless his family and the Zuru Emirate with the strength to carry on his legacy.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dr. Sule-Iko Sami expressed profound gratitude to Malami and his delegation for their solidarity during the period of mourning. He described the condolence visit as a testament to the bond his late father built with people across political, cultural, and religious lines, noting that the Emir always believed in service to humanity.
The condolence visit was warmly received by the royal family, the Emirate Council, and residents of Zuru, who turned out in large numbers to pay their last respects to a monarch widely revered for his wisdom, humility, and people-centered reign.
The late Emir, a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army, was a distinguished officer and elder statesman whose reign was marked by stability and steady progress for the Zuru Emirate. His passing has drawn widespread mourning across Kebbi State and Nigeria.
