Iran Joins Elite Club With First Indigenous Class-F Gas Turbine, MGT-75

In a major technological breakthrough, Iran has unveiled its first indigenously developed MGT-75 Class-F gas turbine, marking its entry into an elite group of only seven countries worldwide that possess this advanced capability.

The announcement, made by Iranian officials on Saturday, signals a significant stride in the country’s industrial and energy independence. Class-F gas turbines are high-efficiency, heavy-duty machines primarily deployed for large-scale power generation, capable of producing between 250 and 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity per unit. In a combined-cycle setup, the MGT-75 is expected to reach efficiencies of nearly 60 percent, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared to older models.

According to experts, the development of the MGT-75 turbine places Iran in the same league as global leaders such as the United States, Germany, Japan, and China, who have long dominated the gas turbine industry. This achievement not only underscores Tehran’s growing domestic engineering expertise but also demonstrates its resilience in overcoming years of sanctions and restrictions on access to advanced technology.

Officials noted that the MGT-75 turbine will be critical in boosting Iran’s national power grid, supporting industrial growth, and expanding energy exports. The project is also expected to strengthen the country’s self-reliance in strategic industries while positioning Iran as a potential supplier of high-tech energy equipment to other developing nations.
