ABUJA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the reopening of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in a massive mobilisation drive set to cover all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the CVR will take place in 811 designated centres, including the 774 Local Government Areas, state offices, and the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The exercise will be conducted through two methods — online pre-registration and in-person registration. The online process will kick off on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration at designated centres will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025. Both processes will run concurrently for one year, ending on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
To make the process easier for citizens, INEC will launch an online CVR Live Locator tool on Sunday, August 17, 2025, allowing voters to search for their nearest registration centres. A 38-page document listing all 811 addresses has also been uploaded to the INEC website, alongside help-desk phone numbers for each state.
Registration will take place Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding public holidays. Olumekun stressed that the procedures will remain the same as those used in 2022, with informational videos and voter guides to be released next week.
The announcement signals a major push ahead of future elections, with INEC urging all eligible Nigerians — especially first-time voters and those who need to transfer their registration — to seize the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
This renewed voter registration drive comes amid heightened political activity across the country, as stakeholders brace for the 2027 general elections.
