In a landmark moment for police morale and institutional reform, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, is set to decorate two exemplary officers recently approved for accelerated promotion by the Police Service Commission (PSC), in recognition of their outstanding service and multiple national awards.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the decoration ceremony will take place at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Promoted are:
CSP Shaba Aliyu, winner of the Police Officer of the Year 2023, promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with effect from 31st December 2023.
SP Sentome Obi, winner of the Police Officer of the Year 2024, promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) with effect from 31st December 2024.
These promotions are not just routine; they represent a public endorsement of integrity, courage, and professional excellence. The two officers, alongside others who have won awards twice within the last two years and staff at the IGP Secretariat with multiple commendations, are being recognized for exceptional contributions to the Force and the country.
The move stems from a resolution adopted at the Force Management Team meeting of June 23, 2025, where the IGP emphasized rewarding excellence as a cornerstone for institutional transformation. This policy was earlier communicated in Press Release No. CZ:5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/472 dated 25th July 2025, which pledged accelerated promotions for officers who receive back-to-back commendations or awards within two consecutive years.
In a gesture underscoring the importance of the occasion, the IGP has approved the use of the Police Jet to transport the awardees—ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi—to Abuja for their decoration. Furthermore, their portraits have been prominently displayed at the main entrance of the Force Headquarters and will also be featured at all Zonal and State Command Headquarters, as previously directed by the IGP.
"This is what institutional pride looks like. This is how trust is built, from within," the Force stated in the release. "We are building a police force where honour is celebrated, service is valued, and excellence is not an exception but the expectation."
The statement concludes with a powerful message to officers across the country: “The job is not thankless. Your sacrifices are seen. Your integrity will not go unnoticed.”
The Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun is taking deliberate steps to build a culture of merit, reward, and institutional confidence—a force where officers are not only recognized but are inspired to serve with greater pride and professionalism.
