The Federal Government has announced an upward review of international passport fees for Nigerians applying within the country, with the new rates set to take effect from September 1, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Thursday, the cost of obtaining a 32-page passport with five years validity has been pegged at ₦100,000, while the 64-page passport with 10 years validity will now cost ₦200,000.
The NIS clarified that the increment applies only to passport applications made within Nigeria, while fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged. Citizens abroad will continue to pay $150 for the 32-page passport (5 years) and $230 for the 64-page passport (10 years).
The Service explained that the new fees were approved by the Federal Government as part of efforts to enhance passport production, ensure timely delivery, and meet rising operational costs.
The announcement has since generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, many of whom expressed concerns over the affordability of passports amidst the country’s economic challenges.
Reiterating its commitment to improved service delivery, the NIS urged applicants to apply only through its official portal to avoid exploitation by middlemen.
