In a surprising political twist, the Zabarmawa community in Akure, Ondo State, has thrown its weight behind former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, urging him to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Kebbi State.
The delegation, led by prominent community leaders, visited Malami at his Abuja office earlier today, declaring their full and unconditional support for his potential candidacy. The visit, described as a solidarity call, was aimed at encouraging Malami to heed the calls from within and outside Kebbi State to join the race for the number one seat in the state.
Speaking during the visit, Abdulhadi Malam Ali, who led the delegation, said the Zabarmawa community in Akure had been closely monitoring Malami’s contributions to national development, rule of law, and grassroots empowerment across northern Nigeria, especially Kebbi State.
“We have watched your consistency, your love for the people, and your principled stand in the face of national challenges. You have what it takes to reposition Kebbi and unify its people,” Ali said. “The people of Zabarmawa in Akure are solidly behind you and will mobilize support from across Nigeria for your success.”
Also speaking, Alhaji Hamidun, the Vice Chairman of the Zabarmawa community in Akure, said the visit was symbolic of a wider sentiment among northerners in the diaspora who believe Malami’s emergence as governor would bring about inclusive leadership, justice, and renewed economic progress in Kebbi.
“We came here today not just as supporters, but as believers in your vision and capacity. You have always defended the voiceless and stood for equity. It is time to serve your home state more directly,” he stated.
Alhaji Yusuf, Wakilin Sarkin Zabarmawa Akure, added that the community will continue to engage with other stakeholders across the country to ensure Malami gets the moral and political backing required to step into the governorship race.
In response, Malami expressed deep appreciation for the visit and described it as humbling and inspiring. He commended the Zabarmawa community in Akure for their unity and concern for Kebbi State's future, assuring them that he would reflect on their request and consult widely before making any formal declaration.
Malami’s possible entry into the 2027 Kebbi gubernatorial race has been a matter of growing speculation in political circles, with many stakeholders viewing him as a bridge-builder with national exposure, legal brilliance, and an enviable record of service to the Nigerian state.
With today's endorsement by the Zabarmawa diaspora community in the South-West, momentum may be building toward a significant political return for the senior advocate.
