The political atmosphere in Kebbi State is heating up as the Youth Alliance Team, a coalition of Nigerian youth organisations, paid a high-level courtesy visit to the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), at his Abuja office on Monday, calling on him to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Led by its National Leader, Kabiru Wasagu, popularly known as Jagaban Wasagu, and the Secretary of the group, Abdulwasi’u Yusha’u Ahmed, the team declared their unflinching support for Malami’s return to active politics, stating that Kebbi State urgently needs a leader with experience, capacity, and integrity to rescue it from the clutches of failed leadership.
> “Kebbi is in desperate need of direction and purposeful leadership. We believe Malami has what it takes to rebuild our state and restore the dignity of governance,” Jagaban Wasagu said during the meeting.
The group lamented the current state of affairs in Kebbi, citing poor infrastructure, youth unemployment, and the collapse of essential services across many local governments. According to them, the former AGF’s national experience and track record of service to the country put him in a prime position to change the narrative in the state.
> “This is a call to duty. Our state is bleeding and only bold, visionary leadership can bring it back on track,” said Abdulwasi’u Yusha’u Ahmed. “We urge Malami to listen to the voices of the people and answer this patriotic call.”
In response, Malami expressed gratitude for the visit and the confidence reposed in him by the youth, stating that their passion and commitment to the future of Kebbi is commendable.
> “Your visit today is a strong message that the youth are awake, aware, and ready to take responsibility for the direction of our state. I will give this call the attention it deserves,” Malami said.
The Youth Alliance Team concluded by stating that they will continue to engage with other critical stakeholders across the state to ensure that competent leadership returns to Kebbi in 2027.
