Troops under Operation Safe Haven have demonstrated rare patriotism and professionalism by rejecting a N13.7 million bribe offered by terrorists during a recent operation along the Jos-Sanga Road, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced on Thursday.
According to a statement released by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the troops intercepted and arrested two suspects who attempted to use the hefty cash as a means to escape justice. In addition to the arrest, the operatives recovered a significant cache of weapons, the bribe money, and a vehicle used by the suspects.
The operation, part of a wider offensive against criminal elements in the North-Central region, also recorded major successes across Plateau, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states. During these coordinated raids, troops neutralized several terrorists, arrested 12 others, and rescued three kidnapped victims.
General Buba hailed the courage and integrity of the troops, noting that their refusal to be compromised reflects the renewed commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to uphold the rule of law and secure the country without fear or favor.
“The gallant troops are not only winning on the battlefield but also in the moral fight against corruption and criminality. Their integrity stands as an example to all,” the statement added.
This latest breakthrough reinforces the military’s continued push to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace in troubled parts of the country.
