In a decisive leadership change, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adeyemi Olumode as the new Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), replacing Abdulganiyu Jaji, who is set to retire on August 13 upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Major General Abdulmalik Jubril (rtd), who described Olumode as a seasoned professional with the experience and training necessary to lead the fire service into a new era of reform and responsiveness.
According to the Board, Olumode has served in various strategic capacities within the fire service and has completed several local and international courses that position him well for the top job. His appointment is expected to usher in improved service delivery, enhanced disaster response coordination, and modernization of fire-fighting infrastructure nationwide.
The outgoing Controller-General, Abdulganiyu Jaji, will formally hand over the reins of leadership on August 13 after a meritorious career spanning several decades. His tenure was marked by efforts to expand the service's presence across Nigeria and improve personnel welfare.
