Presidency Slams ADC: You're Exploiting Buhari’s Death, Not Us

By Zainab Adinoyi

The Presidency has strongly condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what it described as a “shameless attempt” to exploit the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari for cheap political attention.

Responding to the ADC’s statement accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of leveraging Buhari’s passing to whitewash its image, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, did not mince words. He labelled the opposition’s claims as “obnoxious,” accusing them of “disrespecting Buhari and dancing on his grave for relevance.”

“Let it be said clearly: the ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government,” Dare said. He cited the “choreographed arrival” of opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai in Daura, accusing them of attempting to hijack a solemn moment for political mileage.

Dare further highlighted the dignity accorded to Buhari’s burial, noting the presence of world leaders, massive local viewership, and the respectful conduct of the federal government. In contrast, he accused ADC promoters of “prancing about the Buhari family compound like eager real estate agents scouting new territory.”

He urged Nigerians to ignore “the political noise from an outfit gasping for attention,” emphasizing that the Tinubu administration remains focused on honouring national icons and not playing politics with the dead.
