Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion in relief to victims of the recent deadly attack on the Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The humanitarian gesture came during her condolence visit to the state on Tuesday, where she condemned the killings and vowed to rally support to end the persistent violence along the state’s border communities.
The donation, made through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), was presented to assist displaced families and survivors of the brutal attack, which left scores dead and many homes destroyed. Mrs. Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the rising insecurity in the region and promised that the Federal Government would not stand idly by while innocent citizens are killed.
“Enough is enough,” the First Lady said during her speech in Makurdi. “No Nigerian deserves to sleep with one eye open or live in fear simply because of where they reside. We must work together—federal, state, and community leaders—to bring an end to these senseless killings.”
While commending Governor Hyacinth Alia for his leadership in the face of ongoing security challenges, Senator Tinubu called for a stronger collaborative effort among security agencies to secure Benue’s vulnerable communities. She also assured victims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully aware of their plight and has directed all relevant agencies to step up interventions in affected areas.
The governor, in his remarks, thanked the First Lady for her timely visit and generous donation. He described her gesture as a great boost to the healing process of the grieving communities and emphasized that the funds would be transparently disbursed to those most in need.
