In a swift move to assert transparency and accountability within his administration, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has suspended his Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Felix Isere, over allegations of unauthorized fundraising activities linked to the forthcoming Edo Oil and Gas Summit.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, who disclosed that the planned summit—initially scheduled to commence on August 7—has been put on indefinite hold pending further investigation.
According to the statement, Felix Isere is accused of soliciting and receiving funds from undisclosed individuals and organizations without the express approval or knowledge of the state government.
“In view of the foregoing, the proposed summit is hereby suspended, and Felix Isere has been ordered to refund all monies collected to the various donors,” the statement read.
It further cautioned members of the public, particularly prospective donors, to desist from any further engagements or transactions with the suspended official, adding that the Edo State Government remains committed to transparency, due process, and public trust.
Political analysts view the suspension as a stern warning to other appointees, signaling Governor Okpebholo’s zero-tolerance approach to misconduct and misrepresentation in public office.
This incident marks the first major disciplinary action taken by Senator Okpebholo since assuming office, reflecting his administration’s efforts to instill discipline and restore confidence in governance as the state prepares for a series of high-profile economic engagements.
