Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari, have successfully dismantled a gunrunning syndicate in the southern axis of Taraba State.
The operation, based on credible intelligence, targeted a settlement in Byepyi Village along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area. The tactical raid led to the arrest of two suspects—55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa.
According to a statement issued by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the 6 Brigade Public Relations Officer, items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine with sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Bajaj motorcycle.
The suspects are currently in custody undergoing preliminary interrogation, which the army says is yielding useful information on the broader network of illegal arms dealers.
Commending the troops for their swift and precise action, the Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reiterated the Brigade’s determination to root out criminal elements and stop the spread of illegal weapons in the region.
He also thanked residents of Taraba State for their continued support and called on them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that public cooperation remains a vital tool in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
