Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has stirred political momentum in Osun State, charging supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to rise and reclaim the state through strategic mobilisation and mass participation in the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Aregbesola, who made the call during the monthly meeting of the Omoluabi Progressives held in Ilesa, took to his verified Facebook page to express delight over the turnout and commitment of party stakeholders across the local governments of Osun State.
"I was delighted to join our committed and ever-resilient stakeholders of the Omoluabi Progressives, Osun, at our monthly meeting. I expressed my appreciation to all LG leaders for their unalloyed support, unflinching loyalty, and financial commitment to the growth of our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC)," he posted.
The former governor hailed the group's determination to reclaim Osun for "the entrenchment of good governance and a PEOPLE-FRIENDLY GOVERNMENT (PFG)," describing the mission as both urgent and noble.
Aregbesola called on party members to take the upcoming Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) CVR exercise—slated to begin on August 18—seriously. He described the registration process as "crucial to the task ahead" and encouraged members to mobilise youths and first-time voters, particularly those who have benefited from ADC’s people-oriented programmes in the state.
“I urged everyone to actively participate, mobilise, and galvanise our people, especially young people of voting age… to register and be ready to vote,” he stated.
In a veiled message to political opponents, Aregbesola also advised ADC members to maintain decorum in their political engagement, shunning personal attacks and instead focusing on policy-based discussions that resonate with the electorate.
“Rather than resort to name-calling or personal attacks, we must focus on issue-based debates that enrich political discourse,” he advised.
Reaffirming his faith in the people’s support, Aregbesola concluded his address with a rallying cry to restore Osun’s lost glory and deliver a truly progressive and people-centred government.
“Nigeria must work in our lifetime. We will bring back a PEOPLE-CENTRED government!”
The meeting in Ilesa marked another strategic gathering of the Omoluabi Progressives, a political movement within the ADC that continues to grow in strength as Osun gears up for the next electoral season. With the former governor visibly back in grassroots political mobilisation, the ADC appears ready to challenge the status quo and present a formidable opposition force in Osun State politics.
