Abuja, June 10, 2025 – In a decisive move that could reshape the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) strategy for the 2027 general elections, Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has demanded that the party zone its presidential ticket to the South. The demand was a key highlight of a communiqué issued following an emergency meeting convened by Wike in Abuja, attended by key party stakeholders.
The communiqué, released late Monday, outlined several critical resolutions aimed at addressing internal party dynamics and setting the stage for the PDP’s future. It reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP, emphasizing that any party meeting not announced by him, as stipulated by the PDP constitution, is null and void. This declaration appears to target recent factional gatherings within the party, signaling Wike’s intent to enforce constitutional order.
Central to the communiqué was the call for the PDP to formally announce the zoning of its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a move Wike and his allies argue is essential for regional balance and electoral success.
