Kaduna, Nigeria – June 9, 2025 – A senior officer of the Nigerian Navy, Lieutenant Commodore M. Buba, has been killed in a violent robbery attempt at Kawo Bridge in Kaduna while trying to fix a flat tyre.
Eyewitness accounts say the assailant approached the officer under the pretense of helping but instead attempted to steal his mobile phone. When the officer resisted, he was fatally stabbed.
A local vigilante member who intervened sustained injuries during the confrontation. The suspect was later lynched by an angry mob before security forces could arrive.
Lieutenant Commodore Buba, who was a student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains have been deposited at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident and assured the public that discreet investigations are ongoing. Security agencies have also commenced targeted operations to dislodge criminal elements operating in and around the area.
Authorities are calling on residents to remain alert and to promptly report suspicious movements as efforts to curb urban insecurity intensify.
